The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany’s National Metrology Institute, plays a key role not only at the national but also at the international level in shaping and advancing the Digital Calibration Certificate (DCC).

The DCC is based on the internationally recognized and proven exchange format XML (Extensible Markup Language), making it machine-readable and seamlessly integrable into digitally supported processes. All data can be processed automatically, reducing manual effort and ensuring consistency across systems.

To guarantee integrity and authenticity, the DCC uses cryptographic signatures—a well-established security method also applied in other trusted areas such as civil registry systems, waste management, and public procurement within the German federal administration.

Furthermore, the DCC already meets the requirements of DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-03, which is essential for accredited calibration laboratories.

Through its expertise, international collaboration, and commitment to secure digital transformation, the PTB strengthens global confidence in digital calibration and contributes significantly to the evolution of reliable, standardized, and traceable measurement data.
